USA/It’s On: Robin Thicke & Pharrell Appeal ‘Blurred Lines’ Verdict

Earlier this year, a jury ruled that Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams, and T.I. must pay the family of Marvin Gaye $7.3 million in back royalties after being und guilty of unrightfully biting Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give it Up” to make their 2013 hit “Blurred Lines.”

Soon after, Judge John A. Kronstadt red they Thicke and Williams hand over only $5.3 million and half of all future royalties from “Blurred Lines” to the Gaye family.

Their lawyer, Howard E. King, said he planned on appealing the verdict, saying,  “We are going to exercise every post-trial remedy we have to make sure this verdict does not stand.”

And it looks like they are doing just that. As of Monday (Dec. 7), they officially filed their motion to appeal the verdict.

Attorney for the Gaye family, Paul Phillip, released a statement to The Wrap, and he doesn’t seem worried.  “[W]e remain confident that the appeal will have no merit, and when it fails, the Thicke / Williams camp will find themselves faced with the same judgment they’re facing today. Meanwhile, the Gaye family’s entitlement to half of the ‘Blurred Lines’ royalties will have continued to grow over time. What I’m saying is that this appeal only delays the inevitable — we aren’t going anywhere.”

Welp, it’s not over, yet!!
